Eau Claire County
The Eau Claire County communities of Altoona, Augusta, Eau Claire, Fairchild and Fall Creek create an area rich with opportunities for business, education, health care, and recreational activities. This county is hub of activity for business and industry because of the area’s proximity to the Twin Cities, access to markets via major highways—including Interstate 94 and U.S. Highways 12 and 53—along with air, rail and access to an intermodal facility.
Key industry clusters include medical devices and plastics; information and computer systems; manufacturing and distribution; and agriculture and food processing. Mayo Clinic Health System, Menards Inc., Phillips Medisize, Sacred Heart Hospital, United Healthcare, Hutchinson Technology Inc. and Bush Brothers are among the county’s top employers.
Innovators and entrepreneurs thrive here thanks to higher education institutions including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Globe University and Lakeland College. The CVTC Applied Technology Center supports business startups for microfabrication and other advanced manufacturing technologies, providing access to the latest technology and equipment to commercialize innovations. The Chippewa Valley Innovation Center encourages new and emerging entrepreneurial businesses to utilize community resources and provides warehouse and manufacturing space, managerial support, technical assistance, and access to finical programs.
While specialized training and access to highly skilled labor is a draw for new and expanding businesses, the area’s robust economy and picturesque surroundings make it a breeze to attract talent to fill a range of workforce needs.
Business parks throughout the county offer available buildings and sites with access to major transportation routes, utilities, technology infrastructure and a range of amenities and services.
