Pierce County
Pierce County offers the best of both worlds: a serene natural setting with rolling hills, lush valleys and breathtaking views and the economic vitality associated with its position in the Minneapolis-St. Paul MSA. The county’s key communities of Ellsworth, Elmwood, Prescott, Spring Valley, Plum City and River Falls have experienced healthy growth across multiple business sectors, including manufacturing, distribution and industrial sand mining.
Plastics manufacturer, Genesis Industries and thermal materials producer Bergquist Co. are among the area’s largest employers along with Trinity Industries, Nestle Purina Pet Care Co. and natural foods distributor UNFI. The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is also a major employer and is one of two higher education institutions in the county along with Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).
Located in the I-94 corridor, Pierce County businesses and residents enjoy easy access to Minneapolis-St. Paul to the west and Madison and Chicago to the east. The county also offers Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail service along its southern border.
A revolving business fund and Tax Increment Financing Districts in multiple communities help businesses start and grow. Additional startup and expansion assistance and training are available through the county, CVTC and UW-River Falls.
While the area’s vibrant business atmosphere and well-trained workforce spur business startup and growth, Pierce County’s natural resources and attractions are a draw for people looking for an ideal place to call home. World class trout streams, orchards, golf courses and more than 5000 acres of public parkland provide year round recreation opportunities that are second to none for both residents and visitors.
