At a time when many rural hospitals are shutting down birthing units, Western Wisconsin Health (WWH) is setting a new standard for maternity care. The independent, non-profit healthcare system has been honored with Momentum West’s Top Development Award for its $7.8 million expansion project, which added three new obstetrics (OB) rooms.

This investment has allowed WWH to deliver a record-breaking 385 babies in 2024, ensuring high-quality maternity care remains accessible for families in Western Wisconsin.

“Western Wisconsin Health’s commitment to expanding maternity care exemplifies the type of community investment that strengthens our region,” said Steve Jahn, Executive Director of Momentum West. “Ensuring access to high-quality healthcare is vital to sustaining rural communities, and WWH’s efforts demonstrate leadership in both healthcare and economic development.”

The project was made possible through the generous support of donors and grant funders, who contributed over $4 million toward the expansion. Their contributions have strengthened WWH’s ability to meet the growing needs of expectant mothers and families in St. Croix, Pierce, Polk, and Dunn Counties.

“Our expansion project was driven by a deep commitment to our patients and their families,” said Eilidh Pederson, WWH Chief Executive Officer. “We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from Momentum West, and we share this achievement with our exceptional healthcare team, community partners, donors, and grant funders who made it possible.”

With a mission to “Build a Healthier Tomorrow, Together,” WWH remains committed to delivering exceptional care while keeping healthcare accessible in rural areas. The organization recognizes that high-quality medical services enhance health outcomes and contribute to strong, thriving communities.

Looking ahead, WWH is focused on innovation and sustainable growth to meet the evolving needs of its patients while maintaining its independence. By working alongside community partners and leveraging regional support, WWH ensures that families in Western Wisconsin have access to essential healthcare services for generations to come.
