After roughly three decades of false starts and at least eight years of work by one local couple, Amery broke ground this week on the city's new hotel, a $12 million, 60-room Best Western Plus that developers say will open next year.

Ron and Debbie Anderson, longtime Amery furniture retailers, hosted dozens of city officials, project partners and community members at the groundbreaking ceremony, where shovels turned over freshly broken ground on the edge of the new industrial park on Amery’s south side.

The hotel, which will include a lobby bar, a rooftop bar seating about 30 people, an indoor pool, an athletic room and a dedicated party room, is expected to open in roughly a year, according to project partners.
