UWEC program fosters success for future Blugolds

College brings its fair share of worries for students, but concerned Blugolds may find a helping hand on campus.

UW-Eau Claire’s Fostering Success Program seeks to aid students without familial or financial support, and those who have been unhoused or in foster care. According to Fostering Success Program Specialist FranChesca Riley, when students transition to post-secondary education, it’s not always clear what they can expect.

“Oftentimes, they don’t know that there are resources available once they get to college, and so it seems like a very overwhelming task, because all you know is that with college, comes loans,” Riley said. “If you don’t have the opportunity to tour and learn about all of these things, or if you’re a first-generation student and your parent didn’t experience college, they can’t give you any insight into what that journey is like.”
