The closure of Family Fare on Bay Street is more than a headline. It is another wakeup call that the City of Chippewa Falls can no longer afford to ignore. Passive economic development does not work.
Over the past year, downtown Chippewa Falls has experienced visible change. Some have described it as an exodus from Bridge Street and the surrounding blocks. Small businesses that once added character and energy to our downtown have closed or announced closures. Craft shops like String Theory Studio and Ope! It’s Soap, retailers like Iris Boutique, and longtime restaurants such as House of Eggrolls and Mahli Thai cited rising costs, shrinking margins, and fewer shoppers as reasons for shutting their doors.
