Let’s say you want to analyze Wisconsin’s economic state. For a person doing so, the obvious stats — unemployment figures, percentage of people below the poverty line, and number of people experiencing homelessness — come to mind.
Sometimes, when University of Wisconsin-River Falls Professor Logan Kelly researches the economy, he looks at ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) figures, which contain a group of people who are above the poverty line but not enough so to afford necessities. For those in the ALICE demographic, that can mean both struggling financially and not receiving various benefits offered by the state that could improve their financial situation.
