High-value building projects are starting 2017 off to what could likely turn into a record-breaking year for new construction in Eau Claire.
By the end of March, the city had issued building permits for construction valued at $105.9 million — about 250 percent more than the same time in 2016.
“This has the makings of an unbelievable year, a record-breaking year,” said Mike Schatz, the city’s economic development administrator.
Although the number of building permits is similar — 630 so far this year versus 641 for the first three months of 2016 — the projected value of the new construction is much higher.
