Gov. Evers, DWD Secure Over $11 Million in Federal Funding for Career Services for Wisconsinites with Disabilities

Gov. Tony Evers, together with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), today announced the Evers Administration has secured over $11 million from the U.S. Department of Education to support DWD’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), enabling the department to serve all eligible participants without the need to restart a waitlist through federal fiscal year 2027, reducing barriers for Wisconsinites with disabilities across the state.
Gov. Evers proposed sufficient funding for DVR in his 2025-27 Executive Budget to avoid a waitlist and continue providing services for all Wisconsinites with disabilities who wanted to participate in vocational rehabilitation services through DWD. However, the Republican-controlled finance committee voted against the governor’s proposal and instead provided less than what was needed to meet rising demand and increasing costs, forcing the implementation of a waitlist in December 2025.
