New ownership group to transform Balsam Lake golf course

Three veterans of northwest Wisconsin's recreation and development sector have taken control of the former Five Flags Golf Course, rebranding it as The Woods at Balsam Lake. They plan a major overhaul that includes a renovated clubhouse, new golf carts, and potential campground development on the 33-acre property.
Bruce Halvorson, Quinn Johnson, and Bryan Tahtinen announced the acquisition and stated that their partnership is based on what they are calling a "Community First" model.
"We want to be an asset to the Balsam Lake community, not just a place to play some golf," Halvorson said. "Our goal is to create a social hub where neighbors feel just as comfortable stopping in for a drink and a conversation as they do for a round of golf."
