Chancellor Schmidt honored at CCEDC banquet

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmidt was honored Friday at the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation’s annual banquet, as legislators praised him for his work of bringing the university and the business community together.
Schmidt will step down July 1 to become president of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. He was unaware he was being honored at the breakfast event at the Eau Claire Event District.
“These last 12 years have professionally and personally been among the most fulfilling of my life,” Schmidt told the crowd of 350 spectators. “I couldn’t work at a university where the business community didn’t understand the value of working together.”
