New Job Pod at Amery Library offers lifeline as workforce shifts loom

The Amery Public Library will now assist job seekers in finding meaningful employment through its new Job Pod. This latest addition is the westernmost Job Pod in the state and was installed at no cost thanks to grants. The Job Pod offers a quiet, private space with Wi-Fi and resources the Department of Workforce Development provides. The demand for facilities like this continually increases, as approximately 60% of in-person job centers have closed over the last decade.
The Job Pod program started in Brown County, Green Bay. Their library director was a strong advocate for collaboration with workforce development. Sarah Sugden, the director, brought together the Bay Workforce Development Board and Danielle, the Job Pod project librarian, and they devised a way to provide better access to resources in Northeast Wisconsin. Observing the closure of physical resources and access points, the team brainstormed different ways to deliver them to the community.
