Clark County family seeks new image for controversial crop

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Hemp farming has become a hot button topic surrounding its legalization and use across the nation, including the state of Wisconsin.

Now, one Clark County family is making an investment in the controversial plant.

“It's been used for the thousands of years until the last 60 years, why?” asks Jamie Degenhardt, a hemp farmer in Clark County.

After a 60-year ban on hemp farming in Wisconsin was lifted, the Degenhardts are investing in the crop.

Seeking new financial options, they started Cannabis Cultivators of Clark County, a licensed industrial hemp processor and grower based out of Neillsville

The Degenhardts family business is the first in Wisconsin to harvest hemp through a pilot program with the Wisconsin DOJ to re-introduce the plant to consumers.
