A business serving a community for 100 years is bound to leave a mark on a town, and that is exactly what Bremer Bank has done to the city of Amery.

The bank’s devotion to community wellness is made a reality by employees who stride to carry out the philosophy of a gentleman named Otto Bremer. “To serve our clients, we must also serve their community,” said Bremer.

Mr. Bremer came to Minnesota in 1886 as a German Immigrant. Speaking limited English, he obtained a job as a bookkeeper for the National German American Bank. Over the next 36 years, he worked his way up to become the chairman of the American National Bank. He partnered with his brother Adolph in the ownership and management of the Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company, served as treasurer of the city of St. Paul for more than a decade, and became an adviser to Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
