Grocery store developers look to downtown

According to City of Eau Claire Economic Development Specialist Mike Schatz, the Redevelopment Authority (RDA) Board of Directors has been considering whether to bring a grocery store to the downtown development district.

"I guess the RDA board has been studying the indoor public market concept. Stuart Schaefer approached the RDA board for more input on the indoor public market concept. However, he wanted to use TIF (tax incremental financing) for the project. The RDA is not in a position to grant a TIF issuance. That's a City of Eau Claire issue," said Schatz, who added, "Groceries is the number #1 issue that comes up".
