Momentum West has honored Loos Machine & Automation with the 2023 Top Development Project of the Year Award for its outstanding achievement in constructing a new state-of-the-art plant. The facility in Colby, Wisconsin replaces the old and vacant Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) building and will house advanced manufacturing equipment and technologies, enhancing innovation, product efficiency, and quality.

"Owners Eric Mertens and Brady Hoes have transformed a blighted old building into an innovative new site," said Steve Jahn, Executive Director of Momentum West. "Their vision revitalized the area and allowed Loos Machine & Automation to expand, which aligns with their long-term goals. With three buildings in Colby and 180 employees, including 45 engineers, their growth is impressive."

"We are thrilled to receive this award," said Eric Mertens, President & CEO of Loos Machine & Automation. "It represents our commitment to innovation and excellence in serving our clients with custom solutions tailored to their needs."

The new plant is the result of a transformative project that began in May 2022 when Loos Machine & Automation acquired the old PCA building. They quickly repurposed the structure, demolishing part of the old, storm-damaged factory and utilizing existing building sections for their operations. Less than a year later, the facility was operational, with fabricators and engineers working inside to fulfill client machinery orders.

"We are proud of what we have achieved with this new facility," said Brady Hoes, Vice President of Loos Machine & Automation. "It demonstrates our dedication to quality and innovation, and it would not have been possible without the support of the City of Colby and Momentum West."
The City of Colby played a crucial role in the project's success by including the property in a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, providing additional resources for infrastructure projects. This support, combined with the company's long-term vision and commitment to excellence, has enabled Loos Machine & Automation to continue its growth trajectory.

With over 120 years of history, Loos Machine & Automation has established itself as a leader in designing and manufacturing custom machinery for various industries. Their focus on quality, reliability, and technological advancement has made them a trusted partner for businesses looking to optimize their food manufacturing processes.
