Multicultural coordinator named to state most influential Latinos list

MENOMONIE — Vickie Sanchez remembers as a first-year college student being told to go back where she came from.
The Milwaukee native was determined to earn her diploma and not be a dropout. “I belong here,” she recalled thinking when facing discrimination. “I do because I have what it takes to be here.”
Sanchez is the University of Wisconsin-Stout’s student service coordinator for Multicultural Student Services. She recently was named one of the top 39 most influential Latinos in Wisconsin by Madison 365, which is operated by the 365 Media Foundation. The nonprofit organization encourages emerging leaders in greater Madison’s communities of color and fosters dialogue between members of diverse communities.
