WITC-Rice Lake’s second-year construction and cabinetmaking students give tours of the house they built at 710 E. Gates St., Rice Lake. The students implement the skills acquired in the classroom to a real-world scenario, and with guidance from their instructors, build a house from the ground up.WITC invites the public to celebrate the students’ and instructors’ hard work and the completion of this capstone project at this open house event.

The WITC house building project is in its 17th year. Second-year students began construction of the house in late August, under the supervision of instructors Scott Theilig and Chris Harder. The students worked on nearly all aspects of the building, from framing and trusses, siding and roofing, taping and texturing of drywall, balustrade and interior finish, to building and installing cabinets. First-year program students were also involved in the project, finishing the basement with framing, insulating and installing sheetrock.
