Mayo Clinic Health System at 1222 E. Woodland Ave., Barron, held a ribbon-cutting and open house Monday afternoon, March 19, celebrating the completion of its new medical-surgical unit. The project replaces the outdated hospital wing built in 1982.
Construction was completed in 1 year and added 13,685 square feet to the facility. The Medical-Surgical unit now covers a total of 8,640, square feet with an additional 5,045 square feet to be used for a future update of its Family Birth Center.
The Medical-Surgical project includes 10 new patient rooms, each room nearly twice the size of the previous rooms that were clustered in pods. Each room includes a flat screen monitor with wireless internet access and television. Each room includes a private bathroom and shower with safety rails, wheelchair accessibility and lift systems. All rooms are equipped with integrated ceiling lifts that help with moving patients and reduces injury risk to patients and staff.
