Apples, any way you like 'em

Apple Crisp, Golden Delicious, Gala, just to name a few.

These apples can be found on the 30-acre farm in El Paso Township, where new ownership has taken over Rush River Orchard & Bakery.

Joe and Jill Zawierucha are transplants to the area, coming from North Carolina, looking to grow apples and deliver delicious treats. Their grand opening was Aug. 26.

The couple first visited the farm eight or nine years prior to purchasing it in September. The couple would've moved sooner, but they couldn't uproot their family with four children to a one-bedroom home.

The Zawieruchas met while at North Dakota State University where Jill was rooming with Joe's sister. After school, the couple relocated to Michigan, where Joe began his career as an agronomist.

With Joe's scientific background and Jill's ability to serve large groups after being a church hostess, the couple fell in love with the idea a long time ago. It didn't hurt that both were born with a green thumb as well.
