Hiawatha National Bank kicked off Rhubarb Days with a free lunch of ribs and fixings.

The bank is also sponsoring River, Rails and Trails Days and plans to hold its monthly “Fun Friday” on July 21 with cake and a drawing.

Hiawatha National Bank is celebrating 100 years. The bank’s story begins in 1917 in Bay City, Wis., where a group of local residents applied for a bank charter, sold $10,000 worth of stock to incorporate the new bank and elected the bank’s first officials.

In 1965, owners Warren and Beth Oskey purchased the First Bank of Glenwood. After a series of moves and acquisitions, the bank adopted the name Hiawatha National Bank in 1998, after the Hiawatha Valley, from which the Oskeys had come.

The bank opened its Osceola branch in 2012.

Today, HNB serves as a community bank in Osceola, Hudson, Hager City, Maiden Rock and Glenwood City, working to continue the bank’s tradition of financial integrity and community involvement.
