ELLSWORTH—Buying local isn't just a sales pitch to help out local businesses.

Dan Harrington, a leader of the project to upgrade the Ellsworth scoreboard at Bob Young Field in Summit Park, said the money being spent by local consumers at local businesses is coming back to the consumers in a big way.

Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery, Federal Foam, Quinn Motors and Compeer Financial (formerly AgStar) donated enough money to cover a new 34-by-14.5 feet scoreboard for the baseball field in Summit Park.

The project was fully funded without any money from the village.

"That park is a community space and the park is a place where the community can gather and watch a free baseball game," Harrington said. "These great companies decided that they were going to better the community. It's great to see our money that we spend in the community coming back to us.

"This is a great example of why it's important to buy local."
