Building up Eau Claire
16 Apr 2017
Last year marked the third-highest value for building construction announced in Eau Claire’s history, based on a report released by the city.
Builders took out permits for construction valued at a total of $159 million, encompassing everything from new homes, businesses and a new downtown arts center.
“We had a pretty strong economy with lots of jobs in the construction field,” said Mike Schatz, city economic development administrator.
The biggest permit pulled later in the year represents $41 million in construction for the Confluence Arts Center currently being built on Graham Avenue in downtown Eau Claire.
That three-story building will include multiple stages, classrooms, art galleries, rehearsal rooms and a recording studio. Being built by a nonprofit group through community donations and state and local government funding, the arts center will be used by UW-Eau Claire and community arts groups, as well as new offices for Visit Eau Claire.
