Council saves city's oldest building

Menomonie’s oldest standing structure in the downtown historic district will soon be relocated.

The 1862 building was saved from demolition when the Menomonie City Council unanimously approved spending up to $10,000 to preserve the building by having it temporarily relocated on city-owned land below Fire Station #1 on Fourth Street.

The motion to move the former Jill’s My Style building at 125 Main Street came just in the nick of time, as construction of the new Cobblestone Inn and Suites hotel at that location is ready to get underway next week.

DJ Fedderly of DJ Fedderly Properties, LLC, the building salvage rights owner, reaffirmed that the building has the original steel ceilings and steel on the walls as well as the original chair rail and baseboard moldings.
