Zimmerman Jewelers still sparkles at 100

A gem of a business that started in 1919 at 131 N. Main St., Rice Lake, and later moved to 208 N. Main St., still  sparkles brightly as it observes its 100th anniversary.

After 70 years downtown, Zimmerman Jewelers moved to the Cedar Mall in 1989, where it has spent the past 30 years in its same central location.

The jewelry store was started by Phil Zimmerman, and sometime after WWII his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Helen Zimmerman, took over the store.

Like his dad Phil, Don and Helen Zimmerman are now deceased, as is their son, Mark, but their five daughters have many memories of their family jewelry business.

They include Susan Koepp of Rice Lake and Estero, Fla., Mary Batalden of Plymouth, Minn., and Carla Sirek, Lisa Leach and Kay Dittloff, all of Rice Lake.
