Are students these days ready for the real world when they graduate high school/college? Do they know how to balance a checkbook, pay bills, make a budget or realize what things cost? Do they know the ramifications and costs of substance abuse, having children or buying a new fancy car while working an entry level job?

The answer in most cases is no. That is where Reality Check comes in.

Ellsworth Middle School principal Jon Dodge and school board member Katie Feuerhelm have been working with Mary Wood, the UW-Extension family living agent of Pepin/Buffalo counties, who implemented Reality Check in 2005.
