Governor Scott Walker recently issued certificates of commendation to 23 Community Rehabilitation Programs across the state in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Wisconsin Rest Area Maintenance Program. Among them is Indianhead Enterprises, Inc. which has been involved with the program since the rest stops on Interstate 94 near Menomonie opened their doors.

Since 1987, the state has benefited from a valuable partnership with local community-based rehabilitation programs, like Indianhead Enterprises, whose workers oversee the daily maintenance activities at Wisconsin rest areas, certain waysides, park and rides and safety and weight enforcement facilities. Indianhead Enterprises is responsible for the two rest areas located on I-94 near Menomonie, the park-and-ride near the Elk Mound exit, and the safety and weight enforcement facility just east of Menomonie.

There are 23 community based rehabilitation programs across Wisconsin that provide job opportunities to about 350 workers with disabilities who provide routine maintenance at these state facilities. Rehabilitation for Wisconsin (RFW), a private non-profit organization oversees the local community-based rehabilitation facilities and helps the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) manage and operate the Rest Area Maintenance Program. There are 30 rest areas throughout the state involved in the program., with about 17 million visitors annually.
