Sheboygan hospital expanded size, scope under his leadership

With Andrew Bagnall as its leader, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan grew in size and scope during the past eight years, competing with Aurora Health Care and other major providers in eastern Wisconsin. 

Now Bagnall hopes to bring those strategies to Eau Claire, where he plans to help HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital remain a major player in a Chippewa Valley health care sector that is growing increasingly competitive.

Now Bagnall hopes to bring those strategies to Eau Claire, where he plans to help HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital remain a major player in a Chippewa Valley health care sector that is growing increasingly competitive. 

Bagnall was named the new president and CEO of Sacred Heart on Monday. He started that job officially on Feb. 5. He replaces Julie Manas, whose dismissal from that job was announced last week. She had led Sacred Heart since 2012. 

Bagnall discussed Sacred Heart’s future in Eau Claire and said his experience in Sheboygan will serve him well in helping lead the hospital.  

“Competition in health care is strong across the U.S.,” Bagnall said. “Right now is a dynamic time for health care ... there are certainly challenges. But there are opportunities too.”  

In recent years St. Nicholas was able to grow and expand its services, Bagnall said, by partnering with others to provide high-quality services at competitive prices. Those partners included independent physicians who were able to reduce administrative duties and specialize services while growing St. Nicholas’ footprint, he said.
