A branch campus of Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College is located in Ladysmith, and multiple University of Wisconsin 4-year and 2-year campus’ are within commuting distance. The area is well positioned at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 8 and State Highway 27. In addition Canadian National (class 1 railroad) operates tracks that intersect in Ladysmith. The East-West track can carry freight all the way to the East coast over the Great Lakes, and the North-South track is one of the most active in the Country, and transports freight from the Pacific Coast of Canada to Chicago and points beyond.
There are plenty of places to work for residents that live in Rusk County. Like many areas in Wisconsin, Rusk County’s economy includes Forest Product, Manufacturing, Agriculture and Tourism. The area has one of the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs per capita in the State, and a diversifying ag economy offers a great deal of opportunity. Some major businesses in the community include Weathershield, Rockwell Automation, Owens Corning, Jeld-Wen, and City Forest- along with professional services like Marshfield Clinic and Rusk County Memorial Hospital. A variety of retail and service outlets are present including Wal-Mart, Pamida, a movie theater, and golf courses. A vibrant tourism economy also offers neat shops and studios, a variety of restaurants, and plenty of things to do.
