Clark County was named in honor of the soldier and explorer, Capt. William Clarke, who jointly with Capt. Meriwether Lewis commanded the expedition of exploration, in Jefferson’s administration, known as the Lewis and Clarke Expedition.
On July 6, 1853, Clark County was created out of Jackson County with the same area that it is now made up of, except the north tier of towns was added from Taylor County in 1875.
